The Funk Zone is a very unique and energized area here in Santa Barbara that has seen a huge revival in the last few years. For many it is becoming "the place" to lunch, dine and go out at night. Growing up in Santa Barbara, this entire area used to simply be "a rather funky zone" that was filled with all sorts of manufacturing and industrial businesses, a few scattered offices of various sorts, vacant lots and run down maritime feeling buildings etc. Today the entire area is changing and is populated with unique art studios, wineries, businesses, surf shops, retailers, hotels and a few residential developments. The soul of the entire area seems to be a mixture of creative minds, both old and new. The area continues to have a strong mixed-use feel to it.

Villa Del Mar
With regards to real estate and homes for sale in The Funk Zone, there is only a limited supply. The biggest complex is the Spanish style Villa Del Mar condos located on the corner of Santa Barbara Street and Yanonali Street. The design is Spanish / Mediterranean style, high-end feel, high ceilings, luxuriously appointed. Units are 2 and 3 bedroom town home style condos with covered garages and roughly 1700-2100 sqft. Many units have some mountain views with a few having "peak" ocean views. Villa Del Mar condos are a great option for living in a vibrant downtown, yet being located close to the beach, harbor and The Funk Zone.

Villa Del Mar Town Homes - Santa Barbara Additionally, there are a few mixed-use, work / live style lofts that only come up for sale here and there as well as 2 other smaller complexes. Just on the other side of State Street (1-2 minute walk), you will find quite a few real estate options of condos, single family homes, duplexes, triplexes etc. Currently the lower part of State Street that borders The Funk Zone is also undergoing a huge face lift. The La Entrada development will be a combination of luxury hotel rooms, large retail space with open plazas, restaurants, some paseos and gardens. All will be designed to have the look and feel of the predominant Santa Barbara Spanish Colonial Revival Style. Additionally, there will be roughly 120 parking spaces for the public.
